Cashing in on Matty Cash

Matty Cash is in demand. A number of clubs are interested in the midfielder turned full back. And that gives Forest a very strong bargaining position.

Matty Cash

The purported fee is around £15million, and I know some fans suggest that it should be higher, but that figure is a for a player who has never played at the highest level. It would represent the joint highest transfer fee recouped by Forest, for a player that cost nothing.

There is no suggestion Cash is agitating for a move from the club, but by the same token he probably knows he doesn’t have to. The club will likely need to sell in order to create revenue to strengthen the squad in other places.

It will be a huge loss to Forest, but you can’t always stand in these players way. Whether it works out is down to Cash and where he goes. Look at Oliver Burke who left for a big fee, and whose career has floundered, whereas Jamaal Lascelles is arguably now a Premier League stalwart.

How Forest reinvest the money will be key, and we will be looking at that over the coming days.
