Nottingham Forest Transfer Rumour Round Up : 18th May 2015

With the embargo this is a tricky game to play, spot the player we are linked with who’d want to play for £10k a week. There are a few rumours out there.

Matt Mills

Matt Mills
A rumour it seems many aren’t happy with but with Lascelles departing and our centre backs injury records it would be worth looking at. Remember Matt Mills has moved for very high figures in the past. Due to that I suspect his wages would have been high, and whether he can still command higher figures in contract negotiation, or whether he will come here remains to be seen. Out of contract players are interesting in the regard that many of them will be desperate to secure a long term future, whilst also not encumbered with a transfer fee can sometimes push their wages a little higher. Mills will have suitors despite Twitter trolls claiming he’s useless.

Jamie Ward
A very much disliked figure by Forest fans, not least by me, Ward has been linked following his release from Derby. A tricky forward, Ward has played at a series of semi local clubs so staying in the region is likely to appeal to him. The problem remains do we want to sign a player widely disliked? These deals have worked elsewhere before. We haven’t had a horrible player for a while. Joe Garner used to be our horrible player, so sometimes it’s good to have these guys who do the stuff people hate to see. Gamesmanship they call it.

John Akinde
Prolific in Barnet’s promotion back to the football league, Akinde would be a player who wouldn’t cost too much. Coming from such a low division wages would be minimal, and the transfer fee would be also small. However we signed a guy prolific in a poor league standard league last season who hasn’t worked out, in Lars Veldwijk, do we need another one? Always a gamble they either work out and he’s a wonder find (remember Grant Holt bounced round very low leagues to well into his 20’s) or you have a waste of squad space on your hands.

Emmanuel-Thomas

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas
Just released by newly promoted Bristol City, JET, as he’s nicknamed has been a handy League One player for a while. After coming through Arsenals youth team he was highly regarded, but after a series of loans in the Championship at a stint at Ipswich, where he never really got going he dropped to League One, where he found his level. At 24 he still has time on his side, and with 20+ goals over the course of 2 seasons, he’s not goal shy, but his previous form in the Championship plus he wasn’t a fist choice striker this season makes you wonder what role he could fulfil.

Richard O’Donnell
26 year old Walsall keeper who is available on a free after his contract with the Saddlers expired. Apparently interest is huge (image it would be for any decent keeper on a free) and this is what attracts Forest, limited as we are financially. The wage cap of £600,000 would be more than capable of paying him, with some to spare, and whether he competes with or is understudy to de Vries should he sign would be an interesting battle. I honestly don’t know much about him save for the few reports, but it’s a deal that would make sense.
