Many Forest fans will remember young Dale as the understudy to Paul Smith during our time in league 1. It is indeed very sad to report that at the age of just 24, Dale has suddenly passed away.
Roberts broke into our team via the academy with many Forest fans having high expectations of his potential. Although he never made a full first team appearance for the club, Dale did start for Forest in our first ever Brian Clough trophy game against Derby during the summer of 2007.
Roberts then went on to have numerous loan spells with Rushden and Diamonds during 2007 and 2008 before eventually making the move permanent in January 2009. He proved to be a big hit at Nene Park where he won the clubs player of the season award for the 2008/09 season as well as a call up to the England C team.
It is understood that Dale took his own life.
